CUPPA  HUMAN  KINDNESS

The afternoon of Wednesday 16th May saw Lochthorn library buzzing with activity and friendly banter again whilst raising a few more pounds for the DGME kitty. Many cups were refilled to provide respite for parched palates and the more shy members got a chance to chip in too between sips!

For  the “newbies” it was a chance to share stories and experiences with everyone for the first time and it was said to be wonderfully releasing to say and hear the words ”ME TOO”. A better tonic than any pill! With new faces and we’el kent yins, the atmosphere all round was thought genuinely friendly and welcoming, informal and caring. It’s  surely the reason we all keep coming back for more.

Carla Maclaren and Janet Graham of Wigtownshire represented members from “out west”. Once firmly established, they will keep the committee posted about contact details,

meeting times and places for members from the Machars and Rhins. More about this later. Janet was most appreciative of the warm welcome to family and friends as well as

affected individuals as she believes it is key to the groups ongoing success. Coping with the illness via awareness, mutual understanding and sharing the strength of the support network has proven itself time and again to be of immeasurable value.

Dr. Purdie was present once again, showing support and spreading good news re: the hopes of a Managed Clinical Network as proposed for ME in D & G. It will be the first of its kind in Scotland and hopefully, a flagship for the UK.

Dr Carla Maclaren, a GP with ME and  FIBROMYALGIA,  hopes that herself and Dr Purdie will be able to share ideas regarding how to shape this CARE service to meet everyone’s needs best wherever they live in the region. Dr Purdie  advised everyone of the impending

Edinburgh ME Bio-research conference and a small representation were subsequently able to attend for the group's benefit. (See pages 10 & 11 for conference proceedings.)

Norma, Lynn and Margaret said that as usual everyone enjoyed the  chance of a wee social event. Unfortunately, Craig was away and much missed.

Thank you for the donations on the day and a special thanks to those who brought in

Homemade cakes and biscuits.

All offers of help for the committee for such future events is as always very much

appreciated and a big thank you from them to you for supporting  the DGME network.
