way to the church trying to think happy thoughts!!! What a crowd had gathered, although I couldn’t see anyone, we were so nervous. Then Amy arrived in great style with her Dad in a vintage car with the roof down. She looked stunning. What a lonely walk for the Brides Mum down the aisle of a church, something I hadn’t thought of before. Alastair brought Amy down to her husband-to-be bursting with pride.
Alastair, who never gets upset by very much, couldn’t sing the first song due to lump in his throat, naturally that set me off again. What are we like? Anyway it was a lovely service and before we knew Miss Amy Little had become Mrs Kirk Nicholson and we were outside having photos taken. Thankfully the photographer didn’t take long much to my happiness as my 3 inch heels were beginning to tell as was the standing, but if it had taken longer so be it but I was glad to get into the car and sit down. Alastair had instructed them to go along the high street tooting their horns!! Something he had seen in Madeira.
As I said earlier, the hotel staff were superb and looked after us so well, they kept us informed along the way when things were going to happen and we never had to think or remind them of anything. The food was superb, one thing I was concerned about but didn’t need to be as I am sure all the plates were cleared. The speeches were all very good and the Groom had all the women in the company in tears almost with the thoughtful way he talked of his wife and of the love he had for her. Not a dry eye in the room and all the women were left wondering why they didn’t hear this from their husbands!!
I am glad to say that the dance floor was full all night. I love dancing and at one time would have been on the floor all night, but sadly that was something I had to limit, much to my disgust. Standing was the real thing that got to me and of course you stand and speak to people all day and night. I didn’t think my legs would recover and this was perhaps the worst part of the whole day, but a small price to pay in comparison to watching my daughter get married with her sister at her side and all my family and friends around us sharing in our special day. Although no-one said it, I could feel them willing me to get through it.
