Following the AGM, Dr Purdie gave an update on the situation regarding service
planning for ME/CFS/FM sufferers.
He told members that following on from MERUK Edinburgh Conference in May, he
had been invited to meet Dr Aileen Keel, Depute Chief Medical Officer for Scotland
at the health Department in St Andrew's House.
The Scottish Health Department has to address plans from an NHS service for
ME/CFS/FM.
A national clinical forum will be set up involving MERUK, Prof. Belch, Ninewells
Hospital Dundee, Keith Anderson Specialist Nurse from Fife among others.
Clinical services will be developed regionally with Dumfries and Galloway becoming
involved with a consortium of health boards including Lothian, Fife and Tayside.
Dr Keel feels that we should develop our own guidelines in Scotland. The National
Clinical Forum will drive this along with representatives of people with ME and their
carers.
Dumfries and Galloway Group will be involved in this development work.
After business was completed, Alex Fergusson joined us for an informal chat with a
welcome cup of tea and some of Margot Woods lovely home baked treats.
