CHAIRMANS ANNUAL REPORT
Since Dumfries & Galloway M.E. Network was started by a very small group of M.E. Sufferers holding meetings in the Parish Church Hall, Castle Douglas in 1999, we have progressed tremendously and achieved a great deal. The current membership stands at 266 which includes Fibromyalgia sufferers and associate members.
We were very pleased to announce that Doctor Purdie has become the Networks Medical advisor and Alex Fergusson MSP has become the Networks Patron. A reception was held in May in honor of these appointments.
Our commitment to research led us to our first big fundraising for ME Research UK [MERGE]. The Doggie Doddle was a successful event. Money raised so far is in the region of £1000
A workshop was held at the North West Resource Centre in Dumfries on the 5th July 2006. This proved to be a very useful exercise discussing ‘Where do we go from here’ - ‘How would you like the Network to Progress’ – ‘What could have been done better’ – ‘What have we done that has been good and what was bad’ A lot of positive points were discussed and suggestions made. The Follow up to this workshop will be held on Wednesday 13th September 2006 at The Conference Room, Nithbank, Dumfries.
A big Thank You to all committee and associate committee members, for their continued support and help during the past year, you have all contributed so much to the Network. On behalf of myself, and I’m sure the committee join me, in extending an extra ‘Thank You’ to Alison Turner for editing the newsletter. The new look magazine is appreciated by so many members for its information and friendly chat. Also Thanks to our Webmaster Craig Woods, for doing a brilliant job updating the Web Site. This is another helpful way of keeping sufferers informed, not just in Dumfries & Galloway but around the country and other parts of the World.
